Housing Development

Through its housing development initiative, UCDC works to eliminate blighted conditions while providing quality rental and for-sale housing options for low- and moderate-income  income households that currently reside in or are moving to the AUC or the surrounding communities.

Since its inception, UCDC has invested over $6.25 million in the AUC Community and completed the construction and/or renovation of over 54 affordable homes.

While matching the historic character of the neighborhood, UCDC designs each home to meet modern energy efficiency standards including EarthCraft Home and Enterprise Green Communities.

Community Building

UCDC works in partnership with the neighborhood associations within NPU-T to support their ongoing community improvement and outreach initiatives and solicit feedback on proposed development activities.

Public Policy Advocacy

Economic Development

UCDC advocates for public policies that promote the equitable revitalization of Atlanta’s underserved communities.   This includes financial support for homebuyer subsidies, rental assistance, impact fee waivers,  and affordable housing development.  Additionally,  UCDC supports policies such as inclusionary zoning that both mandate and incentivize the development of affordable housing for low-and moderate income households.

UCDC is an active member of Georgia Advancing Communities Together (GA ACT), Housing ATL, and the Non Profit Housing Developers Consortium.

UCDC works with local stakeholders to implement activities and initiatives that:

  • Promote neighborhood job creation;
  • Provide workforce training and educational opportunities for community residents;
  • Increase the provision of quality goods and services; and
  • Promote business development, retention and expansion.
UCDC is an active participant in both the MLK  Merchant’s Association and the West End CID.
